When Carrollton requires permits for repairs
Carrollton's Building Inspection FAQs say permits are required to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move or demolish a building or structure, change its occupancy, or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system; painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, counter tops and similar finish work need no permit; contractors must be registered with the city for a renovation or remodel permit; and applications are made online through the city's CityServe portal. A fire call only needs the damage already known, and the assessment separates cleaning from repairs.
Collection limits apply to occupant-generated bulk waste
Carrollton's residential collection ordinance limits bulk to three cubic yards, collects bulk only from a residence if its occupant generated it, and says the city collects and accepts only refuse generated on-site. A fire cleanout may involve furniture alongside removed flooring or wallboard, so mention those materials during the restoration call. Your technician assesses what can be treated and what needs replacement.
Residential landfill drop-off has load and vehicle limits
Carrollton's Landfill Drop-off page says Carrollton residents, excluding commercial customers, can bring up to 6 cubic yards a month, including construction debris, in a personal vehicle on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon; loads must be covered or tied down, and commercial trucks and trailers cannot dump.
Meter damage affects electrical restoration
For an address where Oncor delivers electricity, its customer-equipment guidance says an electrician must replace a damaged meter base, the enclosure for the electric meter usually on the side of a house; most city electric codes require a building code inspection before service returns, and Oncor cannot safely reconnect until repairs are finished; oncor.com/ci identifies communities requiring inspection.
